Introducing Alina Kulesh

I’m very happy to announce that Alina Kulesh has joined the photojunkie family to write a weekly Arts and Culture column. With a background in the Arts, she is going to be an amazing asset to the site. Her first article goes live tomorrow, and you’ll be able to catch her every Wednesday right here.

In other news, I am on a open call for a few more weekly contributors, to possibly write columns in the topics of Films, Social Media, Video Games or whatever you think might be interesting. If you are interested and think you have got what it takes drop me a line at photojunkie AT gmail DOT com.

Minor Renos

The above picture was shot by Liz Vang, while hanging out today, sharing trade secrets and playing Guitar Hero.

Made some minor changes here over the Family day weekend. You’ll notice that the main content block is now centered, so it will self adjust no matter how big the browser is. I’ve also gone ahead and widgetized the sidebar, cleaning up the links and adding a few other features, including feeds from other sites where I create content.

Going Daily Again.

Maybe you’ve noticed, maybe you haven’t but I’ve started posting pictures daily again. I started doing so at Eidetikos.com, which I started quite a number of months ago. I originally started posting anonymously, but since the redesign here on photojunkie, I’ve brought it into the fold.

The name came from the word eidetic meaning 1. of, pertaining to, or constituting visual imagery vividly experienced and readily reproducible with great accuracy and in great detail. Eidetikos being it’s greek orgins.

I hope to post a variety of shots on the site, including stuff from deep in my archive of images. For those of you that are into feeds, the right url would be feed://www.eidetikos.com/feed/. Check it out, lemme know what ya think.

refreshed, yet again

So I think I’m happy with this one. Yes, I am.

Thanks to Adam for his patience, friendship and hardwork (it’s hard work dealing with me). Without him this wouldn’t have been possible in such a short period of time.

Thanks also to Helvetica, the film which brought on the original inspiration for this redesign. Tweaking will probably occur over the next few days.

Editors Note: Be back soon

Posting is gonna be slow this week. I’m still catching up from last Thursday’s Wii Night at the Whippersnapper gallery, Friday night’s Molbile show at City Hall, Saturday’s Sushi Wii night, Sunday’s Transit Camp and Monday’s DemoCamp.

Tuesday, I’m talking business with Will Pate, Wednesday is Wii Night at Maria’s, Thursday is GTABlogger’s pub night. And then we are off to a packed weekend.

Needless to say I’m backlogged. Hopefully by the end of the week I’ll announce some contest winners and post up some photos from all these events. As of now, I have about 25 posts in draft. No seriously.

Stop spam with Akismet

Before switching servers and redesigning the layout, I started getting tons of spam on the old site. It was annoying and time consuming, so I had to go with drastic measures and only allow registered users to comment. I wasn’t pleased and neither were the readers, as the comments dropped significantly during this time.

I’m happy to announce that spammers have been stopped for good (or at least for now) with the help of Akismet. The product was released by Automattic which of course is the same people behind WordPress, so basically it works seamlessly.

If you haven’t started using it on your own blog, what are you waiting for? To date, Akismet has stopped 5422 spam comments from being posted on this site. (PS: I believe there is an MT plugin as well)

Testing

So we are finally moved over to my own server, Thanks to Jonathan for piggybacking me for the last year and a half. Now that your married, I figured it was time to move out on my own. Congrats on the wedding too.

Anyway, The site looks like crap at the moment, the new design will be implemented piece by piece over the next day…. but after seeing Matt’s re-design yesterday. I have made some slight adjustments in my head.

Thanks for all the instrant messages from those handful of concerned readers. The site is back. More to come shortly, but right now I’m off to speak on a panel at the Blogger preview at the AGO.

SlapDash Updates

So we posted not one but two podcasts today. You may have also noticed that we posted episode 7 and 9, so I bet you are wondering where episode 8 went. Well it will be online soon. The photo above is a shot of Jay interviewing Emm Gryner who is a member of the band Hot One. Consider it a teaser of the podcast to come.

My apologies to Jason and Kylie for posting the podcast on their ride so late. Congratulations on finishing the ride.
