Nokia Frenzy in Toronto

So this weekend I bumped into Eli, Sameer (shown above) and Tanya, who were all reciepients of the Nokia 6682 seeding campaign.

The phone is so pretty, in a feminine kinda way, especially with it’s pearly finish. It’s a tad on the heavy size, but that just means it’s well built, right? And from what I have seen, it takes decent pictures, if the light is decent. In lower light, not so much.

On of my favorite shots so far from the cameraphone is this one taken by Jill of a son and his mother. Also check out Jeremy’s set of 25 on flickr.

Also check out Blaine’s full review of the phone on his site.

Let the seeding begin.

So it looks like the wheels are in motion. A number of local bloggers and friends have started to take advantage of matchstick’s seeding process and are being rewarded with a new cellphone upgrade. Even the mainstream media is catching on, such as this article in the National Post, Nokia ‘seeds’ bloggers with free camera phones.

If you think you might be able to qualify for a phone and wouldn’t mind a free upgrade, let me know and we can see if I can hook you up.

* Must live in Toronto or Vancouver
* Hosts a popular blog with 400+ visits a day
* Between the ages of 22-35
* Keeps his/ her blog updated on a regular basis with pictures and video
* Very socially active

I think they are pretty flexible with the criteria, however you must be in one of the two geographic areas they are covering and you MUST be on Rogers with your current cellphone.

It’s unfortunate that they are strict on the Rogers criteria as I think they are losing out on some key bloggers in both cities. Even we here at photojunkie don’t qualify because we are currently with another mobility company and locked into a contract with them until November. Although, someone suggested, I pick up a pay as you go package with Rogers to bridge the gap.

On the upside, those that are signing on to the program are being hooked up with a pretty cool phone, the Nokia 6682 (for North American Standards). It features a 1.3 MP camera, video capture capabilities, email and a whole slew of other functionality which you can add in and accessories.

Raj from Ohmpage has this to tell me about the phone.

Well its kind of like a computer – It comes with the operating system, demo versions of some games, and some sample wallpapers. You can get lots of fancier programs for it though like things that let you record calls, or do odd things. addon software. I just installed a program to auto-lock the keys after a designated amount of time (so I dont accidentally hit buttons when the phone is in my pocket and I forget to lock the keys).

Over at Marmalade, Kelly, one of the first I got hooked up with a phone, and describes on her blog how Matchstick really kitted her out.

“In addition to the phone (which you can’t see because I’m using it to take the picture), they gave me a 512MG memory upgrade (the phone comes with a 64MG card), a Bluetooth headpiece, earphones so that I can listen to MP3s, and a USB cable so that I can connect the phone to my computer. Also bundled up nicely in a paper carrier bag were the standard accessories such as a charger, various manuals, CDRom with Nokia’s software on it, and other cables and bits and pieces.”

Currently, I think they have seeded about a dozen bloggers, a good chunk through me, but I know for a fact that they are looking to give out plenty more in the coming weeks, 45 in Toronto and 45 in Vancouver.

So drop me a line if you think you might qualify and want to give one a go.

Calling all Tdot and VanCity bloggers

So back in April, I was approached by this marketing firm who specializes in seeding products into the marketplace for word of mouth reviews. They called me and asked several question about my technology buying, especially smaller gadgets like cellphones. Yesterday, I was finally contacted again as they are one step closer in their search for bloggers.

Basically they want to give out cellphones to a number of bloggers in both Toronto and Vancouver. The phones are equipped with a camera and video capturing capabilities. And all they expect is that you actually use their product to create content for your site.

Currently they are short on candidates and thought I would help out the process. I by no means work for this un-named company but am merely passing along the info to the community at large.

This is their basic criteria list. If your site fits and you are interested in the program, drop me a line at photojunkieATgmailDOTcom. I will then pass your info to the company in question.

- Lives in Toronto or Vancouver
- Hosts a popular blog with 400+ hits a day
- A current Rogers cell phone subscriber
- Between the ages of 22-35
- Keeps his/ her blog updated on a regular basis with pictures and video
- Very socially active

Personally, I think it is cool that more companies are looking to bloggers in their marketing efforts. But as I always say, you better believe in your product, because if I don’t like it, I’ll say so on the site.

My Summer Photo Project begins

Well it is official. I will not be doing Portraits in the Park again. It was a great project, but I don’t want to rehash what I did last summer, for the people who didn’t get off their butts to make it out to one of the locations. That being said I will be doing another portrait series that will carry me through the spring, summer and early autumn of 2006.

I have already started sending out personal invitations and have started getting a slew of positive replies to the project.

I’m not gonna reveal too much here just yet, but if you are in Toronto and you are a blogger or photoblogger, who doesn’t mind having their picture taken, drop me an email at photojunkie AT gmail dot com and I will forward you a questionaire with details.
