Because we don’t already do enough with our cellphones already. You can now turn your cellphone into a scanner via scanr. Mobilecrunch and Techcrunch have great articles outlining it’s abilities. Basically it will allow you to convert photos of whiteboards and documents into searchable PDF files.
Stick-on lenses
Do you ever wish you could do more with your camera phone or small point and shoot? Wouldn’t it be nice if you could go macro or wide? Well you can teach an old dog new tricks with Gummi Lens It’s a variety pack of 6 different snap on effect lens for a mere £14.95 at BoyStuff. That’s probably around 35 to 40 dollars Canadian.

Batcam
I’m always fascinated by the marketing and branding of products for comsumer consumption. We found this Batman Digital Camera in the toy section at Walmart. At 1.3 megapixels, you really can’t expect much, but for any Batman fanboy, it’s probably da bomb. Apparently, they also carry Batman TVs, DVD players and a whole slew of bat-branded merchandise.
The iPod Effect
Do you ever catch yourself dancing in the middle of the sidewalk? When the iPods first came out, I thought the commercials were cute, but it wasn’t until I owned an iPod that I totally understood the need to dance, pretty much everywhere. It probably doesn’t help that I’m currently listening to Madonna’s newest album, Confessions on a Dance Floor.
You too can place yourself in an iPod ad. The folks over at photoshop 911 have a quick little tutorial on how.
Over on flickr I found these iPod Halloween costumes. Very inventive.
Cheaper Nano
So I just found out from Sean that Apple announced a 1 gig nano for starting at 179 CAD.
Very tempted. It’s enough to keep me occupied when taking the subway downtown, hold my iCal entries which I can sync from 30boxes and be a soundtrack for an afternoon of shooting pictures around the city.

Bioflex
So yesterday I had a chance to check out this camera show with Michael from 6oh. The show was up in Thornhill so Michael picked me up along the way, which was nice not driving for a change. The show was at the Thornhill Community Centre and the room where they were having the show was not very large. It felt pretty cramped with all the vendors, dealers and patrons, but that didn’t stop us from checking out the warez. It was a pretty slow start and we were overwhealmed by the crowd and underwhealmed by the deals. We ran into Jordan from photosensitive.
It wasn’t until we made it to the last corner of the gymnasium when I found a dealer with a bunch of random boxes under his table. Aftre a quick sift I emerged with something called the Bioflex which is a faux TLR double lens box camera. It’s plastic feel had an instant appeal to me so I talked the guy down in price and got me a new camera. Doing a quick google search, it seems that there are a handful of these TLR floating around, one person even calling it the big brother to the diana. Hopefully I will have a roll shot off this week so I can get some samples up onto the SQUARED site.
The rest of the show was a bit of a bust for me. There were a few interesting deals to be had, but none that I followed through with. We weaved through the aisles at least 4 times contemplating two different camera bags, a few 77mm filters for my sigma lens, a retro camera strap (which actually was this weird suspender design strap), some slide carousels and a remote for my Canon A2. Strangely enough I restrained myself from making any rash purchases and settled in on 10 rolld of outdated Konica 400iso 120 colour film.
Apparently the next two shows will be in January and March again at the Thornhill Community Centre.

10 million candlepower
So I was going through some feeds when I came across this posting on a 10 million candlepower spotlight. If you look at the thread, people commented on using it as a bat-signal. I don’t know about the quality or how long the light will last on these things, But it sounds like a light like this may make a good alternative to studio lightning. Don’t quote me on that though, I’m just thinking out loud.
