Image is Everything

So I was chatting with Ang about the Wii tour and she told me she was gonna dress up like an 80′s tennis player; short shorts, big sunglasses, and sweatbands. This then reminded me of Andre Agassi and the Canon commercials he did in the early 90′s. After a quick search, voila they were on You Tube.

The mullet and the fashion are just too much. Also check out the evolution of the commercials 1993, 1995 and 1997.

It all comes back to Canon

It’s like 6 degrees or something.

- I went over to stryder.com via my referrals.
- Which led me to this picture from Burning Man 2006
- Over here you can find pictures from 9 years of Burning Man (1998-2006)
- Found out that the photographer runs PhotoNotes which I have linked in the past.
- Notably from the site; Canon EOS Beginners’ FAQ
- And Flash Photography with Canon EOS Cameras
- Also in BETA, The PhotoNotes Complete EOS Lookup Page.
(overall one of the best sites for Canon EOS info.)

PS: On a related note, Jay got a Canon EOS Rebel XTi last night. We are officially a Canon household.

I got a Canon Powershot SD600

So last night, I discovered that Shoppers Drug Mart indeed carried some Canon products. A very limited selection. This morning I ended up picking the Canon Powershot SD600, saving myself $200 because of this weekend Optimum Points promotion. It sure is sweet to have a compact point and shoot again to carry around when I don’t wanna drag the SLR out.

Expect to see many many many pictures here from this camera.

If you are curious, it’s 6.0 Megapixels, 3x Optical Zoom, 2.5″LCD etc etc. And I don’t need to buy any new memory cards, since I already have SD cards!

I’m dreaming of a Canon HV10

So lately, I’ve started eyeing camcorders. Years ago, it was something I had very little interest in, but as we do more slapdash episodes, the urge to have my own is growing. Of course being the Canon boy that I am, my firsty instinct was to check out their line. I was immediately drawn to the Canon HV10 which is their newest High Def camcorder. My sights are a little high though, because that $1500 price tag is a little out of my range. Besides I don’t even have a HD TV. But that’s another story altogether.

Canon Powershot SD700 IS

So this is my first camera review, it’s not gonna be anything like what you might read on dpreview.com or any of those other sites. There’s no scientific process or exacting tests that took place. The review is purely subjective from my point of view. The view of the common consumer. Basically do I like the product or not and would I buy it myself.

Over the years, I have always admired the Canon digital ELPH series. They are have always been a sleek compact digital point and shoot which tends to lead the pack. Earlier this year, I was given the opportunity to review the newest (at the time) of the series, the Canon Powershot SD700 IS. It packs a 6.0 Megapixel CCD, 4x Optical Zoom lens and is the first point and shoot in it’s series to be equipped with Canon’s Image Stabilizer technology.

Canon Media Storage M30 and M80

Canon has officially entered the Media storage market with the M30 and M80. I haven’t recieved official word from Canon Canada on this product yet as it was only announced at Photokina in Germany this past weekend, but both products look very promising. It’s a sleek device that will hold either 30 or 80 gigs of data which is perfect for the pro photographer who’s away from their computer. Unfortunately no details have been released on price or availablity, but it should be interesting to see how it compares to the Epson P series which has been on the market for a couple of years now.

Of course, me being the Canon boy that I am, I want one!

The Media Storage M30 and M80 feature:

  • 30/80 GB hard disk
  • 3.7” ultra-bright TFT screen with 160º viewing angle
  • CF and SD card reader
  • USB 2.0 Hi-Speed connection
  • Support for multiple image, video and sound file formats, including Canon RAW, MPEG, MP3 and WAV.
  • Extended PictBridge functionality
  • 4 – 8 digit image file password protection
  • 1/8” audio-out headphone jack
  • Rumour Mill : Canon 40D

I don’t know how reliable this source is, but I heard that the 40D will likely be announced, early next week, let’s say September 26th.

If this is true, we should see the camera in the marketplace in plenty of time before the holiday rush.

The major plus would be the anti-dust technology that they will have built into the camera which Canon introduced in the Canon Rebel XTi (aka 400D).

The question now remains, when will the next full frame digital SLR be announced? this season or next season (early 2007).

My next upgrade will probably be to one of these. This is why I don’t want to invest in EF-S lens.

Canon Canada Anounces three new additions to its Digital ELPH line

It seems that Canon’s been ultra busy over the summer to give us some new products for the coming holiday shopping season. Canon Canada announced yesterday the introduction of the 10.0 megapixel PowerShot SD900 Digital ELPH and the 7.1 megapixel PowerShot SD800 IS and PowerShot SD40 Digital ELPH. I’m uber excited about this announcements for several reasons. Earlier this summer I had my hands on the SD700 IS and it is simply one of the best point and shoots digital cameras I have ever had the pleasure of using. So these upgraded models should prove to be just as good, if not better. It also means that the price of the SD700 IS is coming down, which is also good news.

The brain behind these beauties is DIGIC III, the newest iteration of Canon’s ultra-efficient (and proprietary) image processor. Shared thus far only with Canon’s new flagship PowerShot G7 model – it is the DIGIC III chip that accounts for these cameras’ higher performance levels including faster start up, autofocus and shutter response times; improved maximum processing speed; and of course, enhanced image quality and more efficient power consumption; resulting in extended battery life under typical shooting conditions.

These camera also come equipped with Canon’s new Face Detection AF/AE technology which allows the camera to detect, lock on and track up to nine human faces in a scene. It will then optimize the focus and exposure to ensure the best possible results for easy picture taking moments.

All three of the cameras will be available in stores in October, just in time for the popular camera line’s tenth anniversary. The 10-megapixel Canon PowerShot SD900 Digital ELPH carries a manufacturer’s suggested list price of $750. The 7.1 megapixels Canon PowerShot SD800 IS Digital ELPH carries a manufacturer’s suggested list price of $675. The 7.1 megapixels SD40 Digital ELPH series offers four new elegant shell tones in Twilight Sepia, a dark rich brown with gold accents; Precious Rose, a blushing pink attention-getter; Noble Blue, a shade worthy of the finest designer navy suit and, the soft yet solid sophistication of Olive Grey and carries a manufacturer’s suggested list price of $500.

My personal bet would be on the SD800 IS. Although if you are fashion conscious, the new tones of the SD40 are pretty hot.
