The Canadian Explorer and I

So last week I met up with Keri who runs an awesome site at TheCanadianExplorer.com. She had suggested I do a hypercubepano at R.C Harris Water Treatment Plant. So I did a panorama and she did a video. If you haven’t done so already, check out all her videos thus far at Vimeo. Way too funny, but really she needs to pump these babies out faster, like one a week, or every two weeks.

If you are reading this, yes I back posted this entry. This is what was bleeped out of the video above.

Cleaning up the Blogroll.

With the recent, Test The Nation experience behind me, I’m finding myself craving the posts of others. But first, I think it’s about time I clean out the cobwebs in the blogroll. So far I’m up to the “E”. loading up site by site to see who is still writing, who has moved to a new url and to see who has totally been wiped off the face of the web. Also going to throw in the additional links of my team mate from the show.

Don’t see yourself on the blogroll? Drop me a line, but I won’t make promises that you’ll be added.

Test The Nation Clips on YouTube.

I think it’s appropriate to have Test the Nation clips on YouTube, especially considering there was a warm-up question about YouTube on the show. The clip above was shown near the beginning of the show as a montage about us bloggers. There’s a 5 sec clip of me, which was like 2 hours in the making. Gotta love the power of Television.

Am I Mentally Prepared to be Tested in front of the Nation?

NO. So I just finished doing the Mental Gym on the Test the Nation site. It’s a 5 series of 10 questions regarding trivia from the 21st century. Basically out of the 50 questions, I answered 24 correctly. That short of half. On Sunday, January 20th, I’m going to be in the CBC studio and in front of the camera testing as a part of a Blogger team. The show pits 6 team of 36 people against each other in a game of 21st Century Trivia. The other teams on the show are going to be Chefs, Celebrity Look-alikes, Cab Drivers, Backpackers and Flight Crews. Personally I’d like to think that bloggers will win, but after doing the Mental Gym it really can be anyone’s game.

The blogger team is going to be, Dan Arnold, Jon Arnold, Christopher Bird, Buzz Bishop, Rebecca Bollwitt, Jules Carlysle, Alexa Clark, Ryan Couldrey, Ryan Cousineau, Katharine Hay, Jesse Hirsch, Kerry Anne Holloway, David Jones, Allyson Kenning, John Klein, Andree Lau, Lainey Lui, Amber Macarthur, John Martz, Hugh McGuire, Mark McIntyre, Patrick Metzger, Andy Nulman, Ryan Porter, Adam Schwabe, Craig Silverman, Julien Smith, Allan Sorenson, Rick Spence, Graeme Stewart, David Topping, Kate Trgovac, Rannie Turingan, James Viloria, Karen Whaley, and Frank Yang. (Heads up to my fellow bloggers, I do intend on taking individual pictures of each and every one of you!)

So basically I have about 4 days to brush up on my recent history. Perhaps I’ll start with the year in review coverage over at the CBC website. Unfortunately, that only brings be back to 2003. here are the links. 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007.

Perhaps Wikipedia will be a better study guide. 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008

Test The Nation will be aired on the CBC on Sunday, January 20th, 2008 at 8pm. And for you facebook geeks, there is also a facebook group for the show.

If you haven’t commented before, perhaps now is the time to throw in your two cents and share some trivia with me in the comments.

Nominate your favorite blogs!

So it’s that time of year again to send kudos to your favorite blogs and nominate them for the 8th Annual Bloggies. This site of course, had won best Canadian blog 3 times and is no longer eligible for that category. But hey there are plenty of categories out there.

Anyways, make you voice heard and toss in your nominations. The last day is tomorrow. On the 22nd, the finalist will be announced and you’ll be able to vote for your favorites.

Blogging in Video Games?

So I’ve been playing a lot of DS games lately, especially over the holidays. One of the games I played and completed was Chibi-Robo!: Park Patrolreally fun BTW.

So should I be completely surprised at this blogging reference half way through the game, right after I finished fixing the computer? How could I not blog this.

Feeling Swarmed Online?

Do you ever feel like you are being hit by too much information online? Personally, having some sort of blog presence over the last 7 years you definitely start spreading your oats all over the internet. Especially with sites like flickr, del.icio.us, and twitter, to name a few. Micro blogging and regular blogging seems to be throwing content at your from all sides.

Awhile back, someone asked me, how I go about reading blogs. I told them that I didn’t use a feed reader and that I don’t really read many blog anymore, at least not on a regular daily basis like I used to. It’s especially hard now when I can read the content of any given friend on 5 or 6 different services. Talk about being disjointed. I think I finally found a way to keep things together all in one place. It’s this new site called Onaswarm. It was created by a friend of mine and fellow Torcamper, David Janes. Bascially, it allows you to share all your different feeds from different services all in one place. It also allows you to follow your friends in a similiar manner.

Sure it sounds like another social network, but I think it’s more than that. It’s more like online content management.

One of the highlights for me is being able to watch the ins and outs from a variety of people in the Toronto community, all in one place. I can watch them blog and twitter and flickr without jumping from site to site. Call me lazy, but I don’t really have much time to be everywhere online at once, even with tabbed browsing. The main idea here is that people can create a Lifestream, which is a feed of all your feeds.

If you wanna give Onaswarm Beta a try, ping me. I think I have some invites.

UPDATE: I must add, that I wrote the post in hopes of winning an iPod Touch. That being said, I really do think there is a lot of potential with using onaswarm.
