Toronto Panorama Pix on Breakfast Television

IMG_0741

Yesterday morning, I woke up extremely early (for me) to check out the Breakfast Television set. While I was there I took a bunch of panorama pix. Apparently, this morning they were features on BT. Thanks for sharing them with the city.

Currently, I’ve shot over 170 panorama pix across the city, with the series growing everyday. If you like them, help me win a Nissan Cube by voting for me.

Here are a few favourites from the series so far.

YFM – February 2008 Cover

I finally got a copy of this month’s yfm magazine. My photo of Campbell’s Chef, John Placko graces the cover. The issue also contains photos of Corporate Chef, John Rosso (The Boiler House) and some awesome illustrations by my good friend John Martz.

Photojunkie in the National Post

Photojunkie in the National Post

I was featured in an article on cellphone cameras in the National Post. The piece was a part of a larger special insert on Digital Photography. Here’s a quick quote from the article.

“Having a camera in your cellphone is great for convenience and immediacy,” says Turingan. “Sometimes I might be out shopping and see something really interesting, snap a picture of it, and then if I want I can e-mail it off to my Flickr account or to Facebook, and share it right away.”

Just another postcard?

Does the CN Tower define us?

It’s been a week now since the ROM’s opening weekend of the newly renovated building, but I’ve yet to capture it with my lens. I’m sure I’ll get around to it, but for me, obvious Toronto landmarks are not necessarily a priority on my list of must have photos of the city.

Mark Medley of the National Post ponders if the ROM’s Crystal will define the new image of the city. Personally, I think there is something more to Toronto beyond the obvious landmarks that we use to attract tourists into the city.

Rannie Turingan, a prolific Toronto photographer and creator of one of the city’s most popular photo blogs, Photo-junkie, says the ROM “may be the iconic image of the moment” for Toronto, but it will simply join the CN Tower, Flatiron Building and City Hall on various tourist postcards. He questions whether any shot can convey a real vision of the city. He points out that as the city is growing — and through the soaring popularity of photobloggers and amateur photographers who can display their shots online — the images and representations that people have about the city are ever-evolving.
“Is it fair to say that there is any sort of iconic image of Toronto?” asks Mr. Turingan. “To me, it seems that there is this growing mosaic collection of images of the city online, which suitably respresent its diversity. Toronto is more than just the CN Tower, the ROM or any other landmark. It’s collective images of details, landmarks and people that you can find online that really show what the city is about.”

Canadian Blog Awards

So apparently photojunkie has been nominated for a Canadian Blog Award for Best Photo/Art Blog. It’s already made it through round 1 and is now in round 2 where it’s down to the top 5.

I’m in great company here. Thanks for whomever nominated or voted for me. Apparently you can vote once a day, between now and Friday December 1st.

Although most people see these things as a silly popularity contest, it’s always cool to find the odd gem in the bunch. It’s also great to see a lot of Toronto blogs being represented.

Kudos to all.
