iPod Touch, revisited

So it wasn’t so long ago when I first wrote about the ipod Touch. And seriously, it’s been weighing on my mind for weeks and weeks now. Should I get one, or should I just sit here and lust for it for the next few months.

I suppose the answer would be clearer if I had a steady source of income, but for now all I can think about are the main ways it could help me stay organized and on track. One of the first things I noticed about the Touch was the fact that you couldn’t update your iCal on the device directly, but I know for a fact that there is an easy hack out their to fix that problem and I’ve seen it in action. The hack basically unlocks the device making it function like an iPhone without the phone or camera capabilities.

Luckily, I had a paying photoshoot today and have another on Friday. And I have a couple of backlogged invoices I need to send out, but with a exhibit next week and the holiday season here, other bills need to get paid first.

My iPhone is the first PDA I’ve ever really “used”. Clock, camera, calendar, contacts… all of it. I’m not sure what I’d do without it.

The iCal thing’s been fixed – the 1.1.2 update added iCal editing. The nice thing with the Touch (and iPhone) is that it’s all in the software so new functions and apps can be added over time to increase the usefulness of the device. I’m really wanting a notepad function as well as a way to download files via wifi to the device – February will see the first legal third-party apps being released for the Touch and iPhone. Lots of cool potential! I love mine.

BTW: futureshop has the 16gb model on special this friday at the the new stores (Queensway, Yonge/Dundas, one other) for $80/off. So $369. Wicked price. Stores open at 10am so you’ll have to line up.

I’m lusting after one of these so badly. But I just can’t justify the price, when I can’t fit my whole mp3 collection on it. So, in 2-3 years when it’s 80gb and $250, I’ll get one then. :)

Me, I waiting for the second-generation Touch which will probably be announced on January 15. I’ve played with the one at the Apple store and while it’s pretty cool, there are a few things about it that I’d like to see improved… namely, I’d like to see them add a camera to it like the iPhone has!

yes you can edit ical event directly on the ipod touch – without doing anything to it – it’s built in. Maybe you were looking at an older s/w version, but the ability is there and it works flawlessly.

16gb is just fine for me – I’ve got 3 or 4 movies, a season of King of Queens and all my favourite music – there’s no point in sticking all my music on there – I don’t like everything on every CD, so I just add my favourites.
