The folks over at Hill and Knowlton provided me with a Motorola KRZR K1m to try out and review a couple of weeks ago. It’s pretty damn sexy, but I do have a lists of beefs as well, which I will get to in a future review.
It didn’t occur to me that the commercial above was for the same phone that I had recieved, until I saw the commercial again this past weekend. I think subconsciously I knew it was a cellular phone ad, but what really caught me originally was the visual effects and the catchy tune, which I discovered is Sugar Sweet by The Icicles. An indie band from Grand Rapids Michigan, who will be releasing a new album this coming spring.
Check out the band, more about the phone soon enough.

I almost got a krzr when I was recently shopping for a new cell. I liked it becuase it was small, I keep my phone in my pant pocket all the time (Not one for belt holster look.) I ended up getting the Samsung Blackjack. I wanted something a little robust… pda/smartphone. It was a toss up between that and the Blackberry Pearl, and the reviews have the Blackjack edging out the Pearl. And the blackjack was thinner.
That phone looks like it would get mangled in my pocket. I’ve sorta soured on Motorola phones since I got my RAZR – sure, it looks pretty (or it did, before EVERYONE got one
) but sweet mother of jebus is it ever the least responsive phone I’ve ever had! Text messaging with it is HORRIBLE. I’m definitely leaning towards the Blackjack or Pearl when I get back to the TDot and get to take advantage of those sweet sweet new-contract deals!
I’m interested to see your list of beefs. I think a lot of us are feeling this way. Especially after being Nokia 6682 users. I miss my smartphone abilities as well.
I’ve heard that the razr and krzr are slow… especially if they have itunes… heard its almost unusably slow.
The blackjack is nice… it can get a little slow if you have alot things running. But for texting its nice and easy… esp. with it being a qwerty. Only downside so far for me (and most everyone else) is battery life. I’m on Cingular and they have a broadband network, and if your on that network it drains the battery really fast. Turning that off and just using the normal network, and turning off other things like bluetooth and adjusting power settings, you can get decent battery life. But if your a road warrior that wont be near an outlet to recharge, you might look into the Pearl. I’ve read that cingular ships them out with the extended batteries now. I just missed it. I wonder if I could upgrade for free. I”ll have to look into that. But you gotta expect a short battery life from a phone that ships with two batteries
