Button Mash This! – Wii like to party

In this week’s edition of Button Mash This!, we examine the phenomenon that is the Wii Party, we take a peek at some hot new titles on the horizon, and we get our free on with some freeware. Don’t forget to bundle up, it’s getting cold out. Hold on to your drawstrings, here we go!

Wii-ing is believing
Most of you around here are aware of Rannie’s GTA Wii Tour (aka Wii Wednesdays). But my bro is not the only one spreading the good news around. Reuters [via 4CR and Kotaku] recently wrote about “the new tupperware party” where Wii owners the world over are frequently sharing their love of the next gaming revolution with the masses, making believers out of even the most cynical non-gamer. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard the phrase, “I want one!” come out of the mouth of someone who has just finished their first Wii bowling game. But what I find truly amazing is that it’s almost as much fun to watch people play as it is to actually be playing. So what say you — have you given in to the Big N yet?

Up and Coming
Do you enjoy cute, colourful, sugary sweetness? Are you down with the absolutely adorable? Ok, ok… did you at least dig Elebits? If you answered yes, then have a gander at the delightful trailer for the newly announced game, Dewy’s Adventure.

And if tiny little creatures of fantastical whimsy don’t tickle your fancy, perhaps you need to re-direct your eyes on the newest trailer for the soon-to-be released, most highly anticipated sequel of the year, God of War II.

Cheap and Easy
For the thrifty gamer, give Pandemic [via Game|Life] a try. You play an ever-mutating virus that’s out to destroy all of humanity within 200 days. With its barebone presentation, it took me a while to figure out how to play. But once I did, it became oddly addictive. For the more refined player looking for something aesthetically pleasing, check out Independent Gaming’s Top 10 Freeware Platformers [via Siliconera]. Other notable freebies include news of more frequently updated downloadable demos for Sony’s PSP through their official website. Killzone: Liberation is already out, Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror and SOCOM are on their way soon, and Medal of Honor: Heroes was just released. I have to say I am really digging the opportunity to try out these games I might never have considered before if not for all these free demos. Keep ‘em coming, Sony!

And now for something totally random…
Another arts & crafts mash up brings us Crochet Kirby. And because gamers in the kitchen can only equal one thing, behold game cakes galore!

FYI Diddy Kong Racing comes out this week! And if you’ve got G4TV, don’t forget to watch X-Play: The Musical tonight @ 8pm EST.
