A friend, student and fellow Toronto photographer is currently working on a project for school called “Why Shoot?” He is seeking out written submissions from as many photographers as possible, both pro and hobbyist.
Included after the jump I’ve included his explanation of the project along with the two questions he wants you to answer. I urge you to participate, it shouldn’t take more than a few minutes.
Why shoot?
In an effort to make my art studies matter beyond my own boundaries, I am undertaking a project of studying who exactly is influencing our society with their cameras and why.
That’s you.
Me: My name is Saajid and this project is my thesis for my Graphic Design program at George Brown College, in Toronto Canada.
The proliferation of digital photography and videography has enabled a huge new community of photographers and social commentators to emerge – but what exactly does this community look like and what is it capable of doing in the years to come? Is it self-serving or is our photography a vehicle for everything else? Is it both?
By submitting your information as data for this study you will help create a record of the online photography community circa 2007. This project will also be used to support efforts in real-world community learning.
To participate please submit the following application and one of your photos on any subject any topic, just love it to: y.shoot@gmail.com:
1. Who are you? (10 words or less)
2. Why do you shoot? – What’s your story or the philosophy behind your photography? (You can write as little or as much as you want to for this – I’m interested either way and find it all important)
Thank you for your participation. The findings of this study will be published in a book, on a website and a 15 minute-documentary. Everyone who submits an application will have their email added to a list to ensure I can get in touch with the results.
Thank you
