SX-70 Giveaway
I had just finished spending an evening with my friend Kristi in Georgetown, after getting her son a copy of Gears of War for the Xbox360. So on my way home I decide to swing by the Value Village in Mississauga. That’s where i ended up finding this beauty for a mere $1.99. You gotta love a good thrift find. What a steal.
The peeled finish off the top of the camera is where the Value Village employee put the price sticker, otherwise it seems to be in pretty good condition. Of course it’s been untested, but I may try to put a cartridge of 600 film in here in the next week.
Anyway, I suppose I could make a pretty penny with this on Ebay, but like the title suggests, I’m giving this classic camera away as a part of my 1 millionth visitor giveaway extravaganza. Detail on how to qualify after the jump.
UPDATE
After a test, which basically cost me more than what I paid for the camera. I can honestly say that the SX-70 is in working order.

Oooh! Comment left.
I’ll sign up as part of the “I’ve never had a Polaroid” club
hmm. competition. time to take this (ie. link this) to the next level.
Mmmm… nice!
I’m throwing my name in the hat. Ive been searching for one all over ebayoz with no luck.
me too!!!
and I’m going to post about it!
An SX-70 would be a sweet win.
I could use that camera to round out my polaroid collection
Ok, fine. Really, I just WANT it…
Did I mention my birthday is on February 11?
Did I mention you look spectacular today?
ddddrrrrrrrrroooooooooooooooooooooooooollllllllllll………..
I say we get the kiddy swimming pool out and start makin some jello.
I’m ready to fight this one out…hehe.
*Now THERE’S a photoshoot in the making*
Me wantie.
p.s…I NEED TO GO SHOPPING WITH YOU!
I will trade you a Kodak Brownie and 3 rolls of 127 film for it! Or you could just enter me into the draw. I found another land camera at VV a few weeks ago but not the SX-70. What a discovery!
ok – I’m in on the game on behalf of Tanja
mmm sx-70!
That is one killer camera! *drool*
Looks like the one Firda and I found at an antique market for 5 bucks (we got ripped off)
And same thing happened when we peeled off the price sticker.
I also picked another one (Model 1) at Goodwill for 4 bucks, but the viewfinder seems to be a little screwed up.
We’ve never tried them out though. Polaroid film is way too expensive (though we have the ND kit so we can use 600 film instead of time-zero).
i’m in dire need of an unmodified sx-70 with which to use the time zero film i found in a downtown pawn shop.
I already won something… but just in case, i’m in for this!!
[...] Also the SX-70 giveaway is burning up with ballots, however the PSP games giveaway there is no peep. There is still lot of stuff to giveaway and even more to be announced. [...]
Wow, what a find and you would serioulsy make a bundle selling this gem on ebay. I can only wonder why someone chose to give it away to a thrift shop for what must have been less then a dollar. This camera is truly a piece of histlory; the first instant SLR wow. Too bad that it’s a bit before my time so I was never able to get ahold of one, but it appears to be in rather remarkable condition, though you’d have to get some Time Zero film to truly show what this camera is made of and even that is expensive since they discontinued it. Good luck testing that camera out with the 600 film, it should though I here that modifications are necessary to get to work well with it. An awesome giveaway by far. Good luck to everyone.
thanks rannie for spreading the love.
Cool! Reminds me of a VW van.
oo oooo *hands up*
Lovely…what a gem. But I’m wondering why you wouldn’t keep it for yourself?
Here’s hoping I’m the lucky one
I can’t believe you found this thing for $2. Holy crap, I’m jealous. Very, very jealous.
[...] Today I had to finally retire my shoes. See, I have a habit of buying one pair of shoes (which happen to be chuck taylors since the age of about 12 or 13), and wearing them until they are completely unwearable anymore. This pair I had been wearing since late 2004, and have served me well these past two years. While I was standing at work the canvas finally gave way in the back, and the medium sized hole in the back ripped to a large one. This was also today’s entry for pol.a.day. I just wanted to share my story. Speaking of retiring. I heard today that The Marine Club in Vancouver closed. As B. puts it “now there’s no reason for us to go back”. And that was the only place left in Vancouver ever going to. Marine Club, ye shall be missed. Where will the rockabilly kids go now? PS – Rannie is trying to hit 1,000,000 hits. Help him by clicking here! [...]
Truth be told, I already have two other SX-70 ’s that is why I am not keeping this one.
haw haw haw
i already have one, except i got it for free
it had been sitting in my mom’s boyfriend’s basement for years.
600 film works in it.
PS give it to me so I can sell it on eBay.
gimme gimme always gets
Me me me…Only because it will annoy Sean to no end if i win over him!!!
[...] So I tossed a pack of Polaroid 600 into the SX-70. And the wannabe winners will be happy to know that the camera is in perfect working order. Of course, the test shot is a tad overexposed, but otherwise the focusing is spot on and camera is operational. [...]
A SX-70 for a $1.99, why can’t I find bargains like that.
and I could do with another polaroid camera for the collection
OK then….will make a great addition to my collection – don’t have an SX-70…yet
That looks fantastic. Count me in.
oooooh sweet find! come to mama!
Ahh, now that I know it works I want it TOO! Why do I only ever find smelly crappy junk at Value Village? ?
wow, that one is really much more beautiful than the ones I ever see on offer–and are you saying that polaroid film other than time-zero works in it?
What acool camera! I love the retro look. good score
I would love love love a polaroid!
Dory, I had tested the camera with 600 film and the mechanics all work perfectly. With the addition of a ND filter, this should work perfectly with 600 film.
Wow I can’t believe all the interest over here.
I’m posting for my darling Davin who has been itching for an SX-70 and who’s birthday is coming up.
This Polaroid looks so awesome! I have some extra Polaroid film that I need to use up
Okay, I’ll use the sympathy post, not that it will matter in the end. I was in an accident and I haven’t taken a good picture or many in that case. I’m about 8 weeks until I can walk normally and without crutches, when this happens I want to go CAMERA CRAZY!
I NEED ONE!!!!
yes please!
Oh yes! I used to have an SX-70, back in the day, and I would so love to create one again. I’m in!
