I Was Here

I’ve been blogging since 2000 and I’ve been shooting pictures even longer. But I must admit it’s been awhile since I’ve really shot anything worthwhile, something with meaning, something with a story.

I Was Here” is a media workshop that puts digital cameras and photoblogging websites into the hands of young parents. Seven women, all pregnant or parenting, have been documenting their lives in Toronto through their own eyes. All have had experience with homelessness. The exhibit features large format prints and text from their blogs.

On Thursday night I went to the Toronto Free Gallery to check out the “I Was Here” traveling exhibition. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I left feeling inspired. The exhibit features the photos and words of young mothers, two of whom I met and their stories resonated with me.

“I Was Here” will be at the Toronto Free Gallery (660 Queen St East) until February 2nd. It will be at St. Michael’s Hospital (30 Bond St.) from February 5th to 9th. And finally at NFB Mediatheque (150 John St.) from February 12th to 16th. For more info at http://www.nfb.ca/iwashere

    Hi

Thanks for sharing this. We hope it will raise awreness about the issues young parents face especially when they are also dealing with housing challenges.

    Pass it on!
