Button Mash This! – Wii are fanboys

Happy New Year! (hey better late than never) Welcome to the first Button Mash This! post of 2007. It’s also the first post written here by “Rannie’s little sister”, chelle. I hope to bring you all a little slice of gaming geekery amongst all the photo talk. Now after a crazy trip across the ocean and the usual holiday madness, I’ve got a lot of catching up to do. So let’s get right to it.

Wii Bowling Cheat
Over the weekend we discovered Wii Sports Training, specifically Bowling training, where you can test your strength by knocking over an ever increasing amount of pins. Check out this bowling cheat on how to get all 91 pins in the 10th frame of training. [via Dan]

More Wii accessories
After my 8hr Wii Sports session on Sunday, I needed to give my weary arms some rest. Upon adventuring during my break, Rannie and I discovered these odd add-ons at Rogers Video [See the picture above]. The accessory kit includes different plastic pieces that you can attach to your wiimote that are meant to simulate holding a tennis racquet, a golf club, or a steering wheel. At $29.99, this one seems to be purely for the cash-to-burn variety of gamer. It’s great to see third-party companies trying though. Now how about a more practical peripheral like a Wii wireless keyboard.

Wii Like Streaming Music for Free
New ways to listen to your music are always popping up. Finetune [via Joystiq] is a Wii-optimized internet radio service that allows users to stream music through your gaming console. The current featured playlists are slightly underwhelming, but the artist selection is actually pretty decent and growing. The interface is also quite nice to look at and easy to use. This site is particularly awesome if you have your TV set up to play audio through your home stereo system. Rannie has opened up an account and you can listen to his playlists by entering “photojunkie” under profile.

OMG, I want it!
Next to Edna Krabopoly, Nintendo Monopoly [via 4CR] would be the only themed version of the classic that I’d ever want to own. The custom Nintendo-ized game pieces are particularly rad. It has been out for awhile now, so finding this limited edition boardgame may be a challenge. For the shameless self-promoting hipster, check out DS Buttons [via Kotaku]. Not only are they stylish, but they also serve as invitational badges that flag other DS owners of which multiplayer games you like to play through WiFi. One $12(US) set gets you an “I < 3 DS" pin as well as your choice of 4 out of 9 different designs spanning over such titles as Mario Kart DS, Nintendogs, and Animal Crossing (a PJ team favourite). Why didn't I find out about these a month ago when everyone was asking me, "What do you want for Christmas?" Well, there's always Easter.

If you're an avid reader here, it'll come as no surprise to you that the Turingan kids are a tad bit Nintendo bias. We own DS lites, lined up overnight to get a Wii each on launch day, and we enjoy laughing at unbought PS3 machines just a little more than your average Joe. But don’t get it twisted, we’re not haters. To prove it, here’s a non-Nintendo-related link. (Maybe next week, there will be two!)

Guitar Hero II coming to Xbox 360
My bandmate and I are totally addicted to Guitar Hero II. This formerly PS2 exclusive title has stolen away many a night from us… relentlessly practicing our frenetic licks and whammy bar trickery in order to perfect co-op modes of Sweet Child of Mine, Message in a Bottle, and Freebird. But now Microsoft fanboys too can get their fret-burning fingers on the Xbox 360 version of the game which will include more songs and more content available through Xbox Live. For now keep holding your breath though, as there’s no official word on a release date just yet.

And now for something totally random...
Because who doesn’t love gritty Russian-influenced artistic interpretations of our lovable plumber. For your frivolous viewing enjoyment, we give you “The People’s Mario” [via sevennine]

Have you heard any word on when the next batch of Wii’s are being released. Firda and I would love to get one.

As far as I have heard from a family friend who works at Walmart, is that they are continually getting shipments every week. The problem is that they don’t last on the shelves very long.

I dunno, as much as I love the Wii, almost everyone i know has one, and they’re all getting the fun party games. I was holding out for Wario Ware, but 2 friends are getting it. It kinda puts a damper on inviting friends over to play when they already own the party games we’d be playing. Metroid 3, Smash Bros, and Mario are going to have to be VERY HAWT for me to get a Wii, now. 360 on the other hand could easily satiate me need for some GoW and Guitar Hero 2 (wireless Hetfield guitar, awesome!).
