Our Hawaiian Holiday Luau

Jay and I decided to throw a Hawaiian Luau for the Holidays. With about 30 people in our apartment, it definitelt felt like we were in Hawaii.

I took portraits of all the guests by our Tiki wall. Check out the Tiki Portrait Set on Flickr.

Merry Christmas 1977

My parents and I moved to Canada from the Phillipines when I was 3 years old. I really don’t remember much from those days or prior to. What memories I have of the Phillipines are only that of stories told to me by my parents.

When we moved here, we lived in a basement apartment below my aunt and uncle’s place in Scarborough, on the northwest corner of Danforth Rd. and Linden Ave. There was a nice big yard that faced Danforth and a great Itailian Convience Store two door down. When I was old enough to wander to the store on my own, my dad would send me over there to buy him cigarettes (Rothman’s).

Anyway, I can’t say that I remember much from my first Christmas in Canada, but the year would have been 1977… actually it may have been 1978. DAMN gotta go find out.

Basically, I picked up this old Christmas Ornament from a Value Village for $2.99. It still has it’s original box and I believe it was sold at Hallmark stores. I couldn’t pass it up.

It all comes back to Canon

It’s like 6 degrees or something.

- I went over to stryder.com via my referrals.
- Which led me to this picture from Burning Man 2006
- Over here you can find pictures from 9 years of Burning Man (1998-2006)
- Found out that the photographer runs PhotoNotes which I have linked in the past.
- Notably from the site; Canon EOS Beginners’ FAQ
- And Flash Photography with Canon EOS Cameras
- Also in BETA, The PhotoNotes Complete EOS Lookup Page.
(overall one of the best sites for Canon EOS info.)

PS: On a related note, Jay got a Canon EOS Rebel XTi last night. We are officially a Canon household.

The Christmas Bird

This is the second of a series of three mini snow globes that I picked up at Value Village for $1.99

Wii will Travel!

So, EB Games and Toys R Us have started carrying Wii Messenger and Slingbags in their Canadian stores. I ended up getting one at Toys R Us for $39.99, which is at least $10 cheaper than EB. Of course your best bet is Target stores in the US, which sell them for $30 US. The Target we went to over the weekend also sells the Zelda branded messenger bags.

In any case, I’m all set to travel with my Wii. It’s first trip outside the home will be to my cousins house on Christmas Eve.

UPDATE : Who wants me to travel to their place with my Wii? (GTA folk only)

GorillaPods in high demand

The folks over at Joby must be having a happy holidays because it seems that their Gorillapods are flying off the shelves this holiday season. I’ve been helping someone with their last minute shopping and suggested that they should buy a Gorillapod for their giftee. But after searching the usual suspects, both The Source and Black’s Photography. It seems that the perfect stocking stuffer for that photographer in your life is SOLD OUT.

Luckily, I did eventually find one today at BatteryPlus, their last one in stock.

As suggested in my GorillaPod post back in Oct, consider this added to my wishlist (FYI – I know that the Black’s at Yorkdale Mall still has stock of the GorillaPod SLR).

Also be aware that Joby has since released the GorillaPod SLR-Zoom, which gives you support for up to 3 kg of equipment, perfect for those heavier zoom lens. I have yet to see this version in stores in Canada. Hopefully in the new year.

Blue Christmas

I took this quick snapshot of a window display in Yorkville. I was attracted by the shiny snowflakes and the wallpaper print.
