Two Photographer, More giveaways

The Two Photographers – Two Visions : Ansel Adams, Alfred Eisenstaedt exhibit opened this past Saturday November 18th at the Art Gallery of Ontario.
We had a sneak peek last Tuesday at a blogger preview night, where I spoke on a panel about photography.
If you are hoping to see some of the iconic mainstream images from either of these two masters in photography, your best bet is to pick up one of those gorgeous 2007 calendars that they sell at this time of year. What the AGO has here is something special and different. It is an earlier look at these two great photographer. Shots that may seem mundane now, but waere groundbreaking at the time they were taken. These two men pioneered how we take and view photography today, as they present life with a different eye.
What struck me the most about the exhibit was it’s uncanny resemblance to images that I would see on modern day photoblogs and flickr streams. The difference being that in those time, photographers were so few and the process much longer and there is so much detail in the images. Now it’s almost instant and plentiful, but not always as good.
The exhibition will be running at the Art Gallery of Ontario until February of next year. Tickets for this exhibit are $15.00 for adults and $12.00 for Students and Seniors. Of course we have 5 pairs of complimentary tickets that we will be giving away right here. So leave a comment (1 ballot) or write a post (2 ballots) about this and make yourself eligible. I will be announcing one winner every Friday until the tickets are all gone.
NOTE: This giveaway is closed.

I’ve never been an Ansel Adams fan, but I’ve never seen his work up close and personal. I’m hoping this exhibit might change my mind. If not, I’ll at least have more justification for my stubbornness. And I’ll happily go see them for free.
Eisenstadt is amazing.
This I will be writing about. It is definitally something I can look foward to with my visit to Toronto. Check blog later.
Iconic to say the least! Adams’ work makes me yearn for the mountains and those captured moments that can only happen in nature. I’d definitely love to see the exhibit.
Actually, Rannie, I think that a lot of the most famous Adams prints were in the exhibition, though there is certainly a lot of early work… the Aspens and Moonrise, Hernandez are two of his biggies.
Anyway, people who have his books would love the show… in The Print and Exampels he writes extensively about how he handled some of his famous images in the darkroom (paper grades, burning/dodging, bleaching) and the AGO has them “in the flesh”. Definitely worth a look. (I made a post on my “Words” blog earlier today about it.)
The AGO exhibit is great fun. Rannie, congrats on your appraoch to the 1-million mark!
[...] The first prize goes to Rachel Bowman who was the first person to comment on the Million Giveaway post. The second prize goes to Stephanie Fysh who left a comment on the Two photographers post. Both have won a pair of tickets to the The Two Photographers – Two Visions : Ansel Adams, Alfred Eisenstaedt exhibit at the AGO. [...]
This looks like a super exhibit. I’m going to go either way, but free tickets are my friend!!!
It was a great exhibit. Hope to revisit soon (when the crowds die down). Oh and please consider this my entry into the 1M contest
Congrats PJ.
You’re so sweet, Rannie! Thank you again
Given the choice, free is better.
[...] I’ve yet to announce the winner of last weeks passes to the Two Photographers show at the AGO, so we have two sets of tickets to giveaway. So the first set of tickets goes to Fellow Eskimo who will luckily be in the city in January to enjoy the show. The second set goes to Kyle from Often Overlooked. Congrats. Thanks to the AGO for the donation. [...]
