Stop spam with Akismet

Before switching servers and redesigning the layout, I started getting tons of spam on the old site. It was annoying and time consuming, so I had to go with drastic measures and only allow registered users to comment. I wasn’t pleased and neither were the readers, as the comments dropped significantly during this time.

I’m happy to announce that spammers have been stopped for good (or at least for now) with the help of Akismet. The product was released by Automattic which of course is the same people behind WordPress, so basically it works seamlessly.

If you haven’t started using it on your own blog, what are you waiting for? To date, Akismet has stopped 5422 spam comments from being posted on this site. (PS: I believe there is an MT plugin as well)

Akismet didn’t really give me all the spam stoppage I wanted… Too much spam got through! However, Spam Karma 2 + Akismet, now THAT did the trick!

It’s done thw trick for me. I’m only had 1 piece of spam come through, but it was still stopped for moderation.

Spam Karma 2 is working pretty well for me.

Just wait P-Junk! You’ll get trackback spam soon too. Eventually the spiders find you like an eye-less Tom Cruise in Minority Report.

I’ve had one trackback spam get through while using the Spam Karma/Akismet deal. Make sure that you randomly “report” spam back to either servers. The more you report, the more their Spam-Fu grows!
