RSS readers?

So I’m thinking I really need to start using an RSS reader. It’s a necessary evil, if I want to keep up to date with the various sites I want to follow. Personally, I like visiting an actual site rather than reading their feed. It’s so much more personal, but sometimes time just doesn’t allow.

So I recently discovered that google has a RSS reader service now, whihc you can log into using your gmail account. It looks cool enough, but have you noticed how unstable google apps have been in the last couple of weeks? Growing pains perhaps. I’ve also tried using bloglines in the past, but never got around to iupdating all my feeds.

So I am gonna throw the question out there. Which feed reader do you use? Which would you suggest for me. I would almost prefer to use a browser based feed reader, mainly so I can access it anywhere. Otherwise, I have a Mac at home, so that would be the other main platform to consider.

Currently reading your post on Bloglines, then click on the link, and here I am on your site commenting. Getting all my blogs linked up in bloglines was a great decision… never out of the loop now, and frighteningly enough, reading more than I ever did.

I use Vienna on my Mac. It’s simple, it has a great interface, it’s very easy to use and it’s free. Check it out.

I use Bloglines as well. I prefer a browser based reader so that I can access it anywhere, and Bloglines does the trick nicely for me.

I’ve tried the google reader – I’ve found it to be suckky. I’ve been using bloglines for about a year now – much much better. One of the advantages, to me anyway, is that with bloglines it does not matter where I am – as long as I’ve got an internet connection – I’m good to go.

I agree with your comment about visiting the site. I use the RSS feed to indicate to me when there are updates. I usually go straight to the site to view it as the person has intended.

Most sites have a thumb in the feed and I was considering adding a thumb to mine but decided against that as it forces a visit to see it on my blog – not contained within the reader itself.

I’m in the Bloglines camp as well. It’s very reliable in terms of uptime and it’s very easy to sort, organize and export your feeds.

bloglines. pretty easy interface. you create folders to organize your feeds and from there you can drag/drop them into appropriate folders. and i can read it at home and at work. it’s also how i read your site. if i didn’t subscribe to your feed, i’d never see your content.

Bloglines bloglines bloglines. Hehehe… I love me some bloglines! Easily the site I visit most often every day. And the notifier tells me any time I have updated feeds, so I just pop in and read as soon as a site is updated! :)

I used to use bloglines also. I like it becuase I can read feeds from where ever I wanted to. But since I’m not so go-hung and needing to know whats going on at every single minute, and I just look at photoblogs mainly now, I use NetNewsWire on my Mac at work.

I use kinja. It’s simple — a reverse-chronological list of posts from all subscribed feeds jumbled together.

Well in the limited experience I have had with Google reader, it seems a little limiting when you start reading more and more feeds

Perhaps you had more than one link in your comment and it got lost in spam moderation. Seriously thinking about making people sign up in order to comment.
