Image Rescue

On Saturday Night, I went out to catch Danny Michel, Lindy and Hayley Gene play at the Drake. I got a reasonable good spot near the front of the stage and shot a card full of shots. Once my card was full, I swapped out my CF card and put in some fresh memory. Little did I know, I pulled out the CF card before letting the camera finish writing. When I got home, my images were not coming up on the card’s directory, although it was still showing as full. It was heart wrenching and frustrating.

Luckily, I was able to install Lexar’s Image Rescue software on my computer. The software not only restores lost and corrupted files, but it also allows you to run diagnostics on the card along with a slew of other features. After a quick 20 minutes of scanning my CF card, one by one my images were restored and saved onto my hard drive. I can not tell you how invaluable this software is to any digital photographer. You may think it will never happen to you, but it will. This is the second time I have lost images on my CF cards, but the first time I wasn’t able to retrieve it. For a mere 29.99 USD it’s a small price to pay for the peace of mind of being able to retrieve your lost images.

Note: To use the software, you need to use a card reader for it to access your cards, you can not plug it in via your digital camera. Also note, that although the program is Lexar branded, you can still use the product on various brands of media.

The photos below from the Drake show would not have been possible without the help of Image Rescue, it truly saved my pixels.

my camera (Sony Mavica DC-500) which records images onto mini cd’s crashes its cds almost 5% of them time. I’ve lost hundreds of great shots because of this flaw :(

but thanks for the tip, i’ll be sure to get the software when i buy an slr.

  2. These apps saved my ass on a recent road trip across the states. Of all things, I’d lost the GRAND CANYON. For me, I didn’t realize that not all the pics had transferred over, and then formatted and snapped new photos. Realizing a day later what had gone down, I was heartbroken, but gave the program a go once I could get net access and download. I don’t think it was Lexar’s i used, but it still saved probably 90% of my images, even after FORMATTING and REWRITE. In-cred-i-ble.

I think I got jinxed after I read this the other day… because last night after taking pictures with my new powershot i loaded them up on my computer this morning and all but about 12 of the 134 were corrupt.

needless to say I’m gonna be giving this program a go and see if it can get those images up and working.
