Portraits in the Park

It’s my pleasure to officially announce a new project called “Portraits in the Park”. Starting next week, once a week, throughout the summer, I will set up shop at one of our local parks armed with a tripod and my Yashica Mat 124G. At the beginning of each week, I will announce a location and time where I will be shooting.

I will take photos of any and all willing participants. One shot per person. Come in costume, come dressed up, come as you are, just come to the park. I will do this as a free service to all who participate, but I will accept a suggested 5 dollar donations for each portrait [for film and processing]. Each participant will recieve a copy of their photo and a scan. Please spread the word and check back here on Monday, July 18th to find out when and where the first location will be.

    Count me in!

Okay, turn you head on more of a slant… Now, make a fist. Slowly ease it up underneath your chin.
‘Kay, hold still right there. Now, just imagine you’re weightless, in the middle of the ocean, surrounded by tiny little seahorses.

    Any park!

What a great idea! With the heat wave we’ve been having, though, all the shots may have a similar, wilted look…

  7. Jenni says:

Great idea Rannie, hope you’ll post some of the portraits for us to see. Good luck!

Dude, you so totally need a feed for this site.

I happen to live right across the street from High Park, by the way…

  9. photojunkie says:

High park is definitely on my list…. Along with several other in the central core of the city.

It would be awesome if I were able to do this in various cities, like actually travel and do this. Hyde Park would definitely be on my list. Central Park in NYC, Stanley Park in Vancouver.. etc etc etc

Neil, There is a feed, it’s not quite working properly at the moment for some reason.. it’s listed on the about page.

I’ll be in Toronto from late afternoon on the 20th through the 22nd. If you’re doing anything then let me know.

If people have a park in their area that they want me to hit lemme know

Here is a list of parks I wanna hit so far

Sculpture Garden [off King Street East of Church]

Cloud Garden [off Richmond, west of Yonge]

    Kew Garden [at the Beach]

    High Park

    Queens Park

    Cawartha Park [off Church Street]

    Trinty Bellwoods

The park in Kensington [Anyone know the official name?]

Dunno how far East or West or North I will go. It would be nice to hit the burbs, but I’m kinda weary about the turnout at these locations.

Any other suggestions would be cool.

  12. lor says:

well, when you come on over to hyde park – i’m there!

  13. jodi says:

What about Dufferin Grove Park? :)

  14. David S says:

How about somewhere on the downtown U. of T. campus? Maybe in the quadrangle between the old University College building and St. George (just west of http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Kings+College+Circle,+Toronto,+Ontario&spn=0.020675,0.040199&hl=en )

  15. Gloria says:

Awesome idea. I’ll be looking out.

  16. Lex says:

Allen Gardens – if you’d come yesterday you could have had lots of leather shots. Though I’m not sure that’s exactly what you are going for.

  17. Blaine says:

i’ll show up for the sculpture fountain shoot. close to my work. i saw chromogenic.net (i think) do a shoot like this at a bar where it was a prom theme. good ideas.
